Polarizing Autumn Lake

Polarizing Autumn Lake balances a gold-green shoreline against a broad, textured sky, with the lake softening every edge below.

Bill and Linda Tiepelman ·

Textured blue-gray clouds above golden autumn trees and a smooth lake reflection at Klondike Park.

Where the clouds settle

The cloud pattern is strongest near the top, where bright fragments cross darker blue-gray areas. Beneath it, a thin band of trees carries warm yellows and greens. The reflection repeats those colors with less detail, giving the lower half a quieter role.

Two small shapes break the foreground water, modest interruptions in an otherwise sweeping view. They help establish scale without pulling attention away from the shore. The title belongs to the artwork; it does not, by itself, establish a particular filter or camera technique. The visible appeal is the contrast between richly textured sky and the lake’s smoother interpretation of it.

The place behind the image

The park offers trails for hiking and biking. See the county’s park information for background, and the current visitor page when planning an outing.

Choose a wide crop that keeps both sky and reflection. Removing either half changes the careful exchange between texture and calm. Explore prints and available merchandise for Polarizing Autumn Lake.
