Spring Green So Far Away

Big clouds and finely rippled water make Spring Green So Far Away a portrait of distance, with fresh green trees along the horizon.

Bill and Linda Tiepelman ·

Puffy white clouds over a distant green shoreline and rippled blue water in a vertical Klondike Park photograph.

The far shore can wait

The nearest water is busy with small curves of light. Farther away, those ripples become finer until they meet a narrow green shoreline. Above it, large clouds rise through a deep blue sky, creating a second and much larger scale of texture.

The title points to the greenery, but the trees occupy only a small part of the image. That restraint is the pleasure of the composition. The shore becomes somewhere to look toward while the foreground water and overhead clouds do most of the visual work. Compare the sharp little ripples near the bottom with the softer edges of the clouds: both suggest movement, but at very different speeds.

The place behind the image

The park’s lake supports fishing. See the county’s park information for background, and the current visitor page when planning an outing.

A vertical print preserves the journey from the near water to the high clouds. Keep the lower ripples; they are the viewer’s entry into the scene. Explore prints and available merchandise for Spring Green So Far Away.
