The Art of Angling
A lone angler, a lake full of light, and a sky with a flair for the theatrical: this Broemmelsiek Park artwork makes waiting feel like the main event.
Bill and Linda Tiepelman ·

The pause is the picture
The figure stands to the left, dark against the brightest part of the sky. Follow the fishing rod diagonally across the frame, then let the rings in the foreground water bring your eye back. That exchange between a fine, straight line and broad, liquid curves gives the composition its quiet energy. Reeds help anchor the bank while the distant shoreline dissolves into light.
The most interesting reflection is not a perfect mirror. The angler stretches downward into broken shapes, and the bright water gathers into rounded pools. Clouds carry much of the drama, leaving the small human figure to supply scale. This is an expressive artwork in the park collection; its accompanying archive narrative is imaginative scene-setting, not evidence of a particular catch or an actual angler’s experience.
A place to explore
Broemmelsiek offers fishing lakes. Visit the official county park page for current visitor information, maps, and conditions.
Picture it on your wall
For a print, keep the full square composition: the foreground ripples are as important as the sky. A generous mat gives the bright water room to breathe. Explore prints and available merchandise for The Art of Angling.
